Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information WordSpies ("we", "us") collects when you use wordspies.co.uk (the "Site"), how it is used, and the choices you have. We keep data collection to the minimum needed to run the game and understand how it is used.

Information we collect

• Game information you provide: the display name you type when you create or join a game. This is stored only in your browser and in the temporary game room memory while you play, and is not linked to your real identity.
• No account data: WordSpies has no sign-up and no accounts. We do not collect your email address, password, or payment details, and we never ask for them to play.
• Local storage: we store a short session token and your chosen name in your browser's local storage so that refreshing the page returns you to your game. You can clear this at any time from your browser settings.
• Usage and analytics data: like most websites, we use analytics to understand how the Site is used (see below).

Cookies and analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand aggregate, anonymised usage — for example how many games are played, how long they last, and which pages are popular. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects information such as your approximate location (country/region), device type, browser, and the pages you visit. This helps us improve the game. Advertising

We may in future display advertising on the Site, including through Google and its partners. When we do, third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to the Site and/or other sites on the internet. You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info. This section will be updated with specific ad-network details once advertising is enabled.

How we use information

• To run games and return you to your room after a refresh.
• To understand and improve how the game and website are used.
• To keep the Site secure and working correctly.

We do not sell your personal information.

Data retention

Game rooms and the names in them exist only while a game is active and are cleared when rooms expire or the server restarts. Analytics data is retained by Google according to our configured retention settings and Google's policies.

Children's privacy

WordSpies is a family-friendly game, but it is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will remove it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you. Because we hold almost no personal data, most requests can be satisfied simply by clearing your browser storage. For anything else, contact us below.

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.
